Baby’s Yummy Apple and Pea Puree

This combination of Apples and Peas adds more flavor, and sweetness to the recipe. Surely loved by your little ones. It’s the best form to serve our babies with this first vegetable food in combination with fruits. This recipe creates a fascinating greenish-yellow color and attracts your baby’s attention. Its mixed greenish-yellow color appears due to the great blending of both ingredients.

The aroma of rosemary herb will be loved by babies they will not only eat this amazingly tasteful puree but be fond of it. It’s so a healthy diet that if a baby has 2-3 bites only at a time then he will gain a lot of vitamins, and dense nutrients in these bites. Its consistency and silky smoothness will make it more digestible. I have made it a little thicker than other purees. Its thickness comes from the pea texture as they have delicate membrane-like peel around them and softness from apple pulp.

As they are freezing friendly too it will overcome the trouble of making puree every time. Once you made it after the feeding period save them for further use. Ingredients Required

Apple

There are many kinds of apples present in this whole world having interesting and versatile names like fuji, honey crisp, golden delicious, cameo, gala, etc. I always used golden delicious in my recipe because of its unique taste and rich flavor. In Pakistan, most people love the gala kind of apple but I think for baby food recipes we should go with the golden delicious type because they are juicy and rich and give good texture in purees.

While choosing apples always make sure that their skin is either free from bruises or not. If find any dark deep golden color bruises that start rotting leave them immediately. Always look for fresh apples.

Peas

Peas belonging to the legume family are fibrous too like apples and are good laxatives. In this recipe, peas are the second ingredient that will play equally with apples in the presence of spice to entertain our baby. Frozen and fresh peas both can be used. If taking frozen peas then thaw them first then use them. Always choose fresh peas that are of fresh green color.

Rosemary spice

Rosemary herb spice can be used to introduce babies of age around 6 months and up. It’s safe to add a small quantity(1 pinch) to babies’ food. They contain a list of health benefits too due to their anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antiseptic properties.

Apple and Pea Baby’s Puree

Instructions to follow to make the recipe.

  • Take an Apple and peel it properly. Core it. Make sure there will be no seeds left. Cut it into pieces. Make them in small cubes.
  • Wash the peas with water almost 1/2 cup of what we are taking.
  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Add ½ cup of water to it. Let it boil for 10 minutes.
  • Let it cool. Put it aside
  • Save the  boiled apple and pea water for blending
  • Take a food processor and put all the boiled pea and apple mixture in it.
  • Blend it for 2 minutes with 1 pinch of rosemary spice.

Storing and Preservation

Two methods are there.

Process 1 (Short Term)

In process 1 we will do the refrigeration method. Put the leftover puree in freezing plates. Tap it on the slab to remove the air pockets. Stay in the freezer for 24 hours. Here we use freezing plates because they are flexing in nature and we may pop up the required quantity for the baby requirement.

Process 2 Long-term preservation

For long-term preservation, we may put the puree in an airtight container and squeeze some drops of lime juice in it. ( It prolongs the storing time). Tap it once. Place in freezer for almost 3 months. It is called the freezing method of preservation.

Age month for babies

Babies of six months plus can have it.

Tips need to follow

If you want to make runny textured then add boiled water 2-3 tbsp but do not add too much of it otherwise it will ruin the whole recipe badly.

I have not added sugar as apples already have great sweetness.

Add honey if you feel comfortable to use then skip the sugar.

You can change the measurement of peas and apples. If you want more apple proportions then use peas 1/4 cup only and likewise raise apple measurement accordingly.
